Debbie's Story
I sold my soul at 17 for the ability to live in my skin through opiates and a needle. I continued this for close to 30 years. Life was a constant battle, and the guilt and remorse were so painful, but I couldn't stop. My own son said, "You love drugs more than me." I did love him and I did love the drugs, but I had to have them at all costs. The price ended up being very high-the husband, the parents, the friends, the job, the home were all gone. And I was waiting for death.
I quickly became alarmed when I arrived at The Healing Place. These people did not follow the drill I was used to in other treatment experiences. They expected me to do something to help myself. First I had to decided to live, then find a way to do that. They held me accountable and showed me how to take responsibility for my life. I am grateful every day for the lessons I learned at The Healing Place.
